Co-amoxiclav (amoxicillin & clavulanic acid). Per 600 mg vial Amoxicillin Na 500 mg, K clavulanate 100 mg. Per 1.2 g vial Amoxicillin Na 1 g, K clavulanate 200 mg
Indications/Uses
Treatment of infections eg, actinomycoses, biliary tract infections, bronchitis, gastroenteritis (including salmonella enteritis but not shigellosis), gonorrhea, Lyme disease, mouth infections, otitis media, pneumonia, spleen disorders (pneumococcal infection prophylaxis), typhoid & paratyphoid fever & UTI. Prophylaxis for endocarditis & pneumococcal infections. Used when resistance to amoxicillin is prevalent.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Surgical prophylaxisAdult & childn >40 kg 1.2 g 8 hrly increase frequency to 6 hrly in more severe infections. In high risk of infection, 3-4 doses (0, 8, 16 & 24 hr) may be given in a 24-hr period.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to amoxicillin & K inj associated w/ cholestatic jaundice or hepatic dysfunction. Patient w/ suspected glandular fever & pharyngitis.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhea, indigestion, nausea, vomiting & mucocutaneous candidiasis, vag itching, soreness, transient leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, hemolytic anemia, thrombophlebitis at the site of inj.
J01CR02 - amoxicillin and beta-lactamase inhibitor ; Belongs to the class of penicillin combinations, including beta-lactamase inhibitors. Used in the systemic treatment of infections.
